The questions founders ask before booking.
Pricing, process, fit, timeline, engagement model, and how this differs from an agency or a full-time CMO. Designed to answer the objections you'd otherwise spend the first audit call on.
Is this for me?
Who is this for?
Founders of post-PMF AI and B2B SaaS startups, typically Seed to Series B (£1m–£10m ARR). Product-strong teams where growth has plateaued, founder-led sales is a bottleneck, or there's no senior GTM owner yet. UK-based, currently in Asia, serving US, UK, Europe, and APAC clients with US-friendly time-zone overlap.
Who is this NOT for?
Pre-PMF / pre-revenue teams still searching for a problem (you don't need a fractional CMO, you need to keep finding product-market fit). Teams looking for a cheap agency to run ads. Founders who want a junior FTE replaced at junior cost. Teams that want vanity-metric reporting rather than revenue impact. I'll tell you on the audit call if any of these apply.
What stage should my startup be at?
The useful window is post-PMF, when demand is real but pipeline is inconsistent, the founder is still carrying revenue decisions, and the company needs senior GTM judgement before or alongside a full-time hire. Most engagements are with companies between 1M and 10M ARR.
What does it cost and how does it work?
What does it cost?
Three pricing anchors: (1) free 20-min Growth Audit — diagnostic call, no pitch; (2) Strategy Sprint — from £6,000 for a 2–4 week fixed-scope engagement; (3) Fractional CMO — from £7,500/month for embedded ownership 1 day/week (3-month minimum), or £12,000/month for Fractional CMO Plus (~2 days/week, deeper operating support).
How long does an engagement last?
Most fractional CMO engagements run 3 to 9 months. The first 90 days create the diagnosis, operating rhythm, and first growth system. After that, we either scale, hand off cleanly, or move to a lighter advisory rhythm. Strategy Sprint engagements are 2–4 weeks fixed-scope.
Do you require a minimum commitment?
Yes for Fractional CMO — 3 months minimum so the operating system has time to take effect. The Strategy Sprint is 2–4 weeks fixed-scope, no rolling commitment. The Growth Audit is a single free call.
What happens after I book the audit call?
20 minutes. No pitch. No deck. We diagnose your bottleneck and decide together whether working together makes sense — or where else to go if it doesn't. If it does, we agree the engagement shape (Sprint or Fractional CMO) and pencil in a start window. If not, you get the right operator, agency, or mentor to go to instead.
How the work runs.
What does a fractional CMO actually do day-to-day?
Owns GTM priorities, the weekly growth meeting, reporting rhythm, acquisition decision rules, hiring and agency calls, and the operating cadence the team runs against. Embedded inside the company 1–2 days a week. Builds the system, then hands it off cleanly to internal hires.
What happens in the first 30 days?
Two-week diagnosis covering ICP, pipeline, funnel, CRM, acquisition channels, positioning, and current reporting. Customer interviews, founder interview, sales-team conversations. Constraint map: where the system is leaking pipeline, conversion, retention, or decision speed. Agreed 90-day priorities and the new weekly operating rhythm. First fixes shipped: homepage messaging, a campaign brief, a reporting view, or a channel test depending on the bottleneck.
What do you need from me / our team?
An internal owner who'll receive the system (we don't ship strategy decks for someone to find later — there has to be a builder inside the company). Founder time for the first two weeks (interviews, decisions, hard priority calls). Read access to your CRM, analytics, ad accounts, and customer-call recordings. A willingness to retire activities that aren't working — even when they're someone's pet project.
How is this different from agency or full-time?
How is this different from hiring an agency?
Agencies execute a defined channel scope (paid, SEO, content, outbound) with junior account managers. Strategy lives in the founder's head. A fractional CMO owns the full GTM system: priorities, reporting rhythm, positioning calls, and team direction. Often the cleanest setup is both — fractional CMO sets priorities and channel rules; the agency executes one channel inside that framework. How is this different from a full-time CMO?
Full-time CMO: £120–180k base + 0.5–1.5% equity, 6-month hire cycle, 12-month ramp, 3-month notice. Fractional CMO: £7.5–12k/month, starts in days, 3-month minimum. The bridge pattern — fractional first, full-time later — is the cleanest path for most teams. Full comparison on the Fractional CMO vs full-time CMO page in Resources.
How is this different from a strategy consultant?
Generic consultants ship a deck and disappear. The fractional CMO embeds, owns the operating rhythm, and stays accountable for revenue. No handoff between strategy and execution — same person, same context, faster decisions.
Are you open to full-time roles?
Primary focus is fractional CMO engagements. I'll consider a full-time Head of Growth or VP Marketing role for the right post-PMF AI or B2B SaaS company. Book the Growth Audit to discuss either way.
What can you actually expect?
How quickly will I see results?
First operating-rhythm changes in the first 2 weeks. First measurable growth movement (CAC, conversion, pipeline rhythm) in 30–60 days, depending on the bottleneck and where the leverage sits. Compounding system improvements over 90+ days. The point isn't speed — it's that the team can defend each number on a board call by month two.
What kinds of results have you produced?
Selected outcomes from real engagements: 6× growth in monthly app downloads (2k → 12k+) for an AI healthtech in 6 months; 35% reduction in CAC in 8 weeks for a fintech; 500+ qualified signups from a single campaign at 8.6% CTR for a US B2B fintech; 21% improvement in retention for an eCommerce brand. Lifetime: £18M+ revenue generated, £6.8M+ ad spend managed, £15M+ helped founders raise. Full case studies at /case-studies/.
What can you not promise?
I can't promise specific growth numbers — anyone who does is selling. I can promise senior judgement, an operating rhythm, a defensible system, and honesty about what's working and what isn't. If after 90 days the system isn't producing the right kind of decisions, we end the engagement clean.
Bring them to the audit call.
20 minutes. No pitch. The audit is designed to surface the bottleneck — but it's also where any remaining questions get answered honestly. 2 Fractional CMO slots available this quarter.
